Smoked Yardbird Rub Bone-In Turkey Breast

posted in: Turkey 0

Rubbed a 9 lb Bone-In Turkey Breast on/under the skin with Annie’s Roasted Garlic EVOO for the glue and a liberal amount of Plowboys BBQ Yardbird Rub.  After great success using the Yardbird Rub with Chicken and Pork I’m anxious to taste the results on a Turkey Breast.  Wrapped the seasoned Turkey Breast with Plastic Wrap and into the refrigerator for 3½ hours to allow the glue and rub to work it’s magic!

Preheated the MAK 2 Star Wood Pellet BBQ Smoker-Grill to 230ºF with Hickory wood BBQ pellets.  At 230º there will be a bountiful amounts of Hickory smoke!  Chose to use a Roaster “V” Rack for the first time to see how it will perform versus using a Vertical Turkey Roaster or Frog Mat.

Smoked the Plowboys BBQ Yardbird Rubbed Bone-In Turkey Breast for 2 hours before hiking  the temperature to 325ºF.  Taking the gobbler breast to an Internal Temperature of 170ºF.

The Money $Shot$ …  Hickory Smoked Bone-In Turkey Breast seasoned with Plowboys BBQ Yardbird Rub …  Took 3½ hours to smoke/cook the Turkey Breast to an IT of 170ºF.  Rested the breast under a foil tent for 30 minutes before serving.  The Roaster “V” Rack was very convenient and I can see using it more often with other meats.

The Plowboys BBQ Yardbird Rub turned out delightful on the Turkey Breast.  Have now used the rub on Chicken, Pork, and Turkey with raving reviews from family members and guests!!  This rub is a welcome addition to my spice locker …
