If the rising prices of traditional cuts of Beef are preventing you from enjoying some red meat then check around your local grocery store and/or Butcher and pick up some of those tougher or lesser known cuts. Using a low-and-slow cooking method will make any cut of Beef delectable! Following my own advice, I picked up a 2½ lb Top Sirloin Petite Boneless Roast at my local Savemart grocery store for $5 a pound. Rubbed the roast with Annie’s Roasted Garlic EVOO and Smokin’ Pete’s Roast Rub Seasoning. Wrapped in plastic and refrigerated for 4 hours.
Preheated my new Traeger PTG wood pellet grill to 250ºF using Pacific Pellet Apple BBQ wood pellets. Smoked the Top Sirloin Roast for an hour.
After an hour I raised the PTG temperature to 325ºF until the internal temperature of the roast reached 142ºF.
Rested the Apple Smoked Top Sirloin Petite Boneless Roast under a foil tent for 20 minutes prior to serving. Running a series of test with with Traeger PTG to see if it will meet my needs when cooking for two at home and on the road when RVing. To date I have experienced issues with the lower temperatures but it appears to be functioning as advertised when the temperature is set to 300ºF and above. Time will tell.
