Your biggest challenge, depending on where you live, could be finding Tri-Tip roasts. Unlike the West Coast there are sections of the Country where these cuts of beef are not only unavailable but some butchers\/meat cutters have no real clue as to what a Tri-Tip is. I have read many postings on forums that report they are unable to find these roasts locally.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately I live on the West Coast near Santa Maria, California which is where a butcher at Safeway in the early 1950s first grilled a Tri-Tip roast rather than grinding it up for hamburger. The beauty of a peeled roast is that the fat cap has been trimmed by the butcher. The only thing that remained was to remove any silver skin. Rubbed the Tri-Tip roast with <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Roasted Garlic Extra Virgin Olive Oil\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/roasted-garlic-extra-virgin-olive-oil\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">extra virgin olive oil<\/a> and <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Dry Rub Recipes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/dry-rub-recipes\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Pete's Western Rub<\/a>. Wrapped the seasoned roast with plastic and refrigerated overnight.<\/p>\n<p>Preheated my <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"MAK Grills 2 Star General\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/mak-grills-2-star-general\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">MAK 2 Star<\/a> wood pellet smoker-grill with <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Premium 100% Hickory\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/premium-100-hickory\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Hickory<\/a> to 230\u00baF. Smoked the tri-tip roast for approximately 2 hours until the <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Thermapen Mk4 Thermometer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/thermapen-mk4-thermometer\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">internal temperature<\/a> reached 145\u00baF. Rested the <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Premium 100% Hickory\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/premium-100-hickory\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">hickory<\/a> smoked tri-tip roast loosely under a foil tent for 15 minutes before slicing against the grain.<\/p>\n<p>Served with a side of steamed cauliflower and a green bean casserole. Steamed cauliflower is a great alternative for mashed taters if you're watching your carbs.<\/p>\n<p>As I said, smoking a tri-tip roast to perfection is really simple. Season the roast, preheat your wood pellet smoker-grill to 230\u00baF with your favorite wood pellet flavor for beef, smoke the roast till the <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Thermapen Mk4 Thermometer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/thermapen-mk4-thermometer\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">internal temperature<\/a> reaches 145\u00baF, rest the roast, slice, and enjoy ...
