{"id":1281,"date":"2011-09-06T14:15:00","date_gmt":"2011-09-06T22:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/?p=1281"},"modified":"2011-09-06T14:15:00","modified_gmt":"2011-09-06T22:15:00","slug":"roasting-garlic-in-a-mak-2-star-wood-pellet-grill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/roasting-garlic-in-a-mak-2-star-wood-pellet-grill\/","title":{"rendered":"Roasting Garlic in a MAK 2 Star Wood Pellet Grill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>How many of us bought a Garlic Baker over the years only to have it sit around collecting dust?\u00a0 Sure we had great intentions of using it but somehow the opportunity never arose.\u00a0 So I came face to face with my dust covered Garlic Baker and decided there&#8217;s no time like the present to break in the Garlic Baker &#8230;\u00a0 Sounds so simple.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Baked Garlic Recipe<\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 whole heads of garlic<\/li>\n<li>2-3 Tbsp <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Roasted Garlic Extra Virgin Olive Oil\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/roasted-garlic-extra-virgin-olive-oil\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Olive Oil<\/a><\/li>\n<li>\u00bd tsp Chopped Fresh Oregano, Rosemary, or Basil<\/li>\n<li>Salt &amp; Ground Pepper to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i854.photobucket.com\/albums\/ab105\/papa_peter\/BBQ%20Smoke\/miscellaneous\/RoastedGarlic09052011\/GarlicBaker1.jpg?resize=480%2C360\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Soak domed lid in water for 10 minutes.\u00a0 Remove some of the papery outer skins from garlic.\u00a0 Slice off the tops of the bulbs so each clove is exposed.\u00a0 Trim base so garlic heads can sit flat in base of baker.\u00a0 Drizzle <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Roasted Garlic Extra Virgin Olive Oil\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/roasted-garlic-extra-virgin-olive-oil\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">olive oil<\/a> over garlic bulbs.\u00a0 Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and oregano.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i854.photobucket.com\/albums\/ab105\/papa_peter\/BBQ%20Smoke\/miscellaneous\/RoastedGarlic09052011\/Garlic1.jpg?resize=480%2C360\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Instructions call to cover with the domed lid and place in cold oven.\u00a0 Set temperature to 325\u00baF and bake for 45 minutes or until garlic is tender and husks are golden brown.\u00a0 Baste occasionally with <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Roasted Garlic Extra Virgin Olive Oil\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/roasted-garlic-extra-virgin-olive-oil\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">olive oil<\/a>, if desired.<\/p>\n<p>Since I was smoking a Stuffed Pork Loin Roast at 230\u00baF in my <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"MAK Grills 2 Star General\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/mak-grills-2-star-general\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">MAK 2 Star<\/a> Wood Pellet BBQ Smoker-Grill using Gourmet BBQ Pellets, I decided to throw in the Garlic Baker for 2 hours.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i854.photobucket.com\/albums\/ab105\/papa_peter\/BBQ%20Smoke\/miscellaneous\/RoastedGarlic09052011\/Garlic2.jpg?resize=480%2C360\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Figured that if the recipe calls for 45 minutes at 325\u00baF then 2 hours at 230\u00baF would work out just as good.\u00a0 <strong>WRONG<\/strong>!! \u00a0 Garlic was barely \u00bd cooked and tasted horribly &#8230;\u00a0 Back to the drawing board &#8211; No harm, no foul.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i854.photobucket.com\/albums\/ab105\/papa_peter\/BBQ%20Smoke\/miscellaneous\/RoastedGarlic09052011\/Garlic3.jpg?resize=480%2C360\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If at first you don&#8217;t succeed, try, try, again! \u00a0 <strong>Round 2<\/strong>:\u00a0 Prepared the Garlic as per the Recipe.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i854.photobucket.com\/albums\/ab105\/papa_peter\/BBQ%20Smoke\/miscellaneous\/RoastedGarlic09052011\/LegQuarters4.jpg?resize=480%2C360\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This time I smoked\/cooked Chicken Leg Quarters at 225\u00baF for an hour and then bumped the temperature to 325\u00baF until the <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Thermapen Mk4 Thermometer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/thermapen-mk4-thermometer\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Internal Temperature<\/a> (IT) of the Chicken legs reached 180\u00baF.\u00a0 From experience I knew that I had at least an hour or more before the Chicken would be done.\u00a0 I placed the Garlic Baker in the <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"MAK Grills 2 Star General\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/mak-grills-2-star-general\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">MAK 2 Star<\/a> Wood Pellet Smoker-Grill just before bumping the temp 325\u00baF.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i854.photobucket.com\/albums\/ab105\/papa_peter\/BBQ%20Smoke\/miscellaneous\/RoastedGarlic09052011\/LegQuarters5.jpg?resize=480%2C360\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An hour later at 325\u00ba and the Chicken Leg Quarters reached their target IT of 180\u00ba and I was anxious to see how the garlic would turn out.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i854.photobucket.com\/albums\/ab105\/papa_peter\/BBQ%20Smoke\/miscellaneous\/RoastedGarlic09052011\/LegQuarters6.jpg?resize=480%2C360\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Baked Garlic turned out 90+% done and tasted wonderful.\u00a0 You could press the garlic with a fork and spread on hot, crusty french bread.\u00a0 Dip in <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Roasted Garlic Extra Virgin Olive Oil\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinpetebbq.com\/wordpress\/recommends\/roasted-garlic-extra-virgin-olive-oil\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">olive oil<\/a> seasoned with Italian spices.\u00a0 Each clove can also be pressed out and served as a side dish.\u00a0 I know many people may not eat Baked Garlic for a side dish but if you love garlic half as much as I do you&#8217;ll love it.\u00a0 Or maybe just add baked garlic to pasta sauces, salads, or pizza toppings.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i854.photobucket.com\/albums\/ab105\/papa_peter\/BBQ%20Smoke\/miscellaneous\/RoastedGarlic09052011\/LegQuarters8.jpg?resize=480%2C360\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Money $Shot$ &#8230;\u00a0 A Chicken Leg Quarter garnished with some fresh Pinto Beans, quick and dirty Spanish Rice, and a side of Roasted Garlic &#8230;\u00a0 Good stuff Maynard !!<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i854.photobucket.com\/albums\/ab105\/papa_peter\/BBQ%20Smoke\/miscellaneous\/RoastedGarlic09052011\/LegQuarters9.jpg?resize=480%2C360\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t see my my Garlic Baker collecting dust anymore cause I plan on using it as often as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How many of us bought a Garlic Baker over the years only to have it sit around collecting dust?\u00a0 Sure we had great intentions of using it but somehow the opportunity never arose.\u00a0 So I came face to face with &hellip;
